B.Sc. in Medical Lab Technology

The under graduate programme B.Sc. in Medical Lab Technology is a three-years UGC recognised Degree course under Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT, W.B). B.Sc. in Medical Laboratory Technology (BMLT) is a branch of science applied to diagnose, treat and prevent diseases using clinical laboratory tests. This branch has two prime career options, including medical laboratory technologists and technicians. 

B.Sc. in Medical Laboratory Technology involves the study prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases by the utilization of laboratory equipment to perform clinical tests. It is one of the most important parts of the health care system as it plays the role of diagnosis and collection of information required to provide the suitable and best medical facilities to the patient.

  • Students who graduate in Medical Lab Technology will get ample opportunities for practice in Public Health facilities, Hospitals, Clinics, Nursing homes and Commercial Laboratories as laboratory professionals or experts.
  • Research requires a lot of hard work and thorough knowledge of all medical and clinical aspects as well as great accuracy in the conduction of tests.
  • The students should have an interest in biology, chemistry as well as mechanical and computer knowledge to pursue this career.
  • Most of the job opportunities in the field of Medical Lab Technology depend upon the Technical and Academic skills of the Technologist.
  • After the completion of the Degree, they can join any Medical Laboratory as a certified medical laboratory Technologist and earn experience in their specializations.
  • Higher Secondary or equivalent examination (CBSE, ISC, A Levels or any other equivalent Board examination) in Science stream with mathematics and/or biology.
  • Students who are due to appear for Class XII final exams/awaiting results may be given provisional admission.
